The Weekly Warlock Wind-Up: Definitely not rushed at all (answer)

This week I hurriedly asked which number should replace the question mark in the following puzzle:

9 – – – 4

33 – – – 12

27 – – – 10

15 – – – ?

See the answer after the break!

So, the best way to tackle this problem was to try and work out the relationship between the corresponding numbers and then apply this to the final row.

Hopefully it didn’t take you long to see that to get from 9 to 4 you can divide by 3 and add 1, and then to realise that this was true for all the pairs. Applying this process to 15 gives you 6, which was of course the answer.

Watch out on Monday for another puzzle coming your way!

My mind works backward. To solve it I went… Oh! You must multiply the last number by three, then subtract three to give the first number! 😄

      That works too 🙂

In reality there are an infinite number of processes which you could use to produce the pairs, but I just put down the one I used.
