This week, I tried to con you with pictures of cattle grids before presenting you with the following number grid. I then asked you to find the value of the question mark. So what’s the answer?
Well, the first thing I always do in a situation like this is to look for patterns. You could try swapping the numbers for letters of the alphabet, or maybe adding up all the columns, but in this case if you added up all the rows you will have noticed that…
- 3 + 6 + 1 + 2 + 8 = 20
- 12 + 9 + 5 + 7 + 7 = 40
- 4 + 7 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 20
- 10 + 5 + 16 + 1 + 8 = 40
From this it’s clear that there is a pattern emerging, and if we were to follow it we could assume that the last row is therefore going to add up to 20. Right now, 5 + 2 + 3 + 9 = 19, which means the question mark must be equal to 1!
So, how’d you do? I know one person got their answer in at the last moment; did anyone else get there?
