Have a break, have a Kit-Kat

It exists, I sat on it!

Well, after more than three years of continuous WoW-playing, I’ve finally decided to take a break.

Truth is, I’ve been bored with the game for quite a while now. It feels as if I’ve accomplished almost everything I want to do, and, without allowing this post to degenerate into a sea of QQ, it does feel as if the game is changing in a way I don’t much like. So I’m going to be permanently AFK for a few months; right now I’m planning to make a return shortly before Cataclysm releases (whenever that may be!) but I can safely say it’s going to be a while, whatever happens. When the main thing you enjoy in a game is just talking to your friends, it becomes nothing more than a very expensive chat room, and it’s not really worth it.

With regards to my guild (which, as some of you may know, I run ran) I’ve left it in the capable hands of my officers, and I have every confidence in them. I won’t necessarily be taking over again when I come back either – we’ll just see how it goes. On that note, I’d like to direct you here, to Cold Comfort, where Karatheya has been kind enough to take up my idea for a post and write not one but three articles about transferring leadership, and all things related to the issue.

But anyway, yes, I know. You don’t really care about my guild and you probably aren’t bothered in the least about what I’m actually doing in the game. You come here to read my blog, and what you want to know is – am I still going to be blogging? The answer is yes, I am!

Now, I won’t necessarily be keeping up with the development of the game, and so don’t expect to see many guides or breaking news stories. However, I do feel I can share a lot about what I’ve learnt from being a guild leader for so long, and I would sort of like to write some memoirs, per se. This could very well end up taking the form of fiction, which is an area of writing I once started in but never got anywhere with, so if you start seeing Veliaf the Warlock as the main character in a series of stories, don’t be too shocked. Oh, and of course I’ll be keeping up the weekly puzzle, which is what you’re all here for anyway.

See you next time!

A little personal achievement

Well, it may not be the cap, but I have managed to achieve my personal target of over nine thousand fifty thousand gold! The sale that broke it was a King’s Amber, which went for 136g.

What’s your character’s theme music?

So after perusing the Blog Azeroth forums for a time I came across the list of past shared topics. One from a few months ago was the above – what would be your character’s theme music? You know, something which would play whenever you walk into the room.

For Veliaf, I briefly considered a remake of Dominos:

Uuuuuh uuh-uuuh
These mobs fall like dominos, dominos
These mobs fall like dominos, dominos
These mobs fall like dominos, dominos

As soon as I DoT them it’s been too long
Talks of wiping to them makes me sad
Swallow my soul fire and eat it alone
DPS get lazy and smash any dreams of loot

These mobs fall like dominos, dominos
These mobs fall like dominos, dominos
These mobs fall like dominos, dominos, dominos

Food buffs we shared were too early on
Stuck with strudel float upon mage tears
CCing using fear means we slowly aggro
Ending with always costly spirit rez

These mobs fall like dominos, dominos
These mobsĀ fall like dominos, dominos
These mobsĀ fall like dominos, dominos
These mobs fall like dominos, dominos (dominos)

[instrumental break]

As soon as I DoT them, it’s been too long
And I really loved draining your soul
These soul shard gems will shine on I was wrong
The hardest fight has the coldest end

These mobs fall like dominos, dominos
These mobs fall like dominos, dominos
These mobs fall like dominos, dominos
These mobs fall like dominos, dominos (dominos)

Uuuuuh uuh-uuuh

After some thought however, I decided to go for this. It pumps me up while I PvP:

So, what would your character’s theme music be?

Loremaster!

December 15th, 2009, 22:07. Loremaster.

My gosh, that was a lot of work. I’ll be posting more about it later this week, so I can mention things like useful links, tips and hints, as well as so I can talk about my experiences, but for now, let’s just enjoy it.

DPS meme, with a “slight” Demonology theme

DPS

Many of you may have heard of the tanking and healing memes that are flying around. Many of you may not have heard that there’s also one for us dps classes, as created by the Death Goddess. Not being one to shy away from random questionnaires, here we go!

What is the name, class, and spec of your primary dps?

Veliaf, my Human Warlock who – as you should all know by now from reading my blog – is Demonology specced. Because it’s superior. In every way.

What is your primary dpsing environment? (i.e. raids, pvp, 5 mans)

Unfortunately, probably five-man heroics, because I can’t raid as much as I want to. I’ve been known to dip into the battlegrounds however, in which case I spec into Destruction. But not because it’s better! Just for a change, y’know, so that I can appreciate Demonology all the more. We can’t have the best spec all the time.

What is your favorite dps spell/ability for your class and why?

That’s a tricky one, and could be either Metamorphosis or Soul Fire. The former turns me into a hulking great Illidan-type demon with wings and fire and a 20% boost to my damage, and really represents the awesomeness that Demonology has to offer. On the other hand, my Soul Fires crit for crazy amounts (read – 17.6k, once) and the idea of throwing a whopping great ball of fire at my enemies appeals. It’s a bit mage-y though…

Guardian of Cenarius

Before I start, I’ll be posting the answer to my puzzle tomorrow, so you have until then.

Anyway, after finally summoning the will to head out into the deserts of Silithus and grind some rep the other day, I can now proudly call myself exalted with the Cenarion Circle, something I’ve wanted for quite some time:

CenarionCircleExalted

Rather than just make this into one big boast, I’ll be useful and give you my advice as to how I would go about getting this title / achievement again. Also, the WoWWiki page for the faction grind is here.

Tips and tricks for CC rep grinding:

  • The best place for rep, hands down, is AQ20, which rewards CC rep almost exclusively for each mob and boss. The quest items which drop, such as the scarabs, are worth keeping until you can get the quests, which of course reward rep when you complete them. Despite it being a raid, AQ20 can be finished by just 3 or 4 people at level 80, but if you can’t get a group you could probably carefully go and solo it, as a Warlock, though it would be slow to avoid death.
  • The second best place for rep is probably AQ40, but for this you will need a raid. There’s also the disadvantage that some mobs reward Brood of Nozdormu rep instead of CC (not a bad thing, but not good for this particular grind).
  • Third, and the easiest method of repping yourself up, is to kill the Twilight Cultists in the various camps around Silithus – I visited the two west of Cenarion Hold. The mobs reward about 10 rep each (11 as a Human) and frequently drop the Encrypted Twilight Texts which can be turned in to a chap in the Hold for a good amount of rep, though the exact amount escapes me.
  • Fourth, you can collect the set of clothing which drops from the Cultists and use it at a Lesser Wind Stone to summon and kill the elemental mobs. Each of these drops a Crest, and turning in 3 will get you some more rep. Obviously, you can do this while you get the Texts.
  • You can obviously also do the quests for the faction – some are in Silithus, but some are spread out around the world. I believe there are some in Dire Maul, and a couple of the Zangarmarsh quests might give CC rep as well as Cenarion Expedition.

Surprisingly the grind (I had about 6000 rep to go) only took a couple of hours with the various turn-ins – I was just focusing on the third bullet point that evening – and it was much smoother than expected. Next up, the Zandalar Tribe!

It’s time to post!

And today, I don’t mean blog posting, although that is in fact what I’m doing. I mean Auction House posting.

A couple of days ago as mentioned, after some small success with producing and selling glyphs I decided to take on a larger chunk of the market and do things on a bigger scale. So throughout all of last week I’ve been building up my stocks of Northrend herbs, especially at the weekend when prices are lower, with the intention of milling them all down. Here’s the result:

Pigments

Something like 580 pigments if I read the notes I jotted down in a notebook correctly.

Anyway, exactly 9 minutes and 26 seconds of crafting inks later, I came up with this:

Inks

Then, I took some time to make sure all the planned glyphs were worthwhile – if they were going to sell for less than certain amount, I wouldn’t lose money, but I wouldn’t make very much either. So this, plus the Snowfall Ink, is what I’m literally just about to post on the AH:

287 auctions, I believe. Far less than some more serious people out there will be doing, but far more than I’ve ever invested in and posted before. So why did I wait for today?

  • Servers reset – posting within the last day or two could have been a bit pointless if my auctions were running while the servers were down. This also means the AH is ‘fresh’.
  • Raids reset – anything related to raiding sells better just before the raids start for the evening, because raiders have to stock up on consumables, etc. Glyphs are partially included in this because people often respec for raids.
  • Prices go up slightly – prices are on the rise anyway after the weekend slump, and fewer people post during the week, meaning less undercutting.
  • ADDED BONUS: Whether big or small, patches always increase the prices of things as people respec, change professions, try new content, and more. The fact that I’m posting all of these glyphs on the same day as the release of 3.2.2 is a fantastic coincidence.

I’ll post in a couple of days as to how much I make and how it goes.

Stay tuned,

Vel.
